RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch is offering local people a new way to support its work and to shop more sustainably by launching The Charity Shop Gift Card — the only nationally accepted, multi-retailer gift card that can be spent exclusively in charity shops.

The Charity Shop Gift Card is a not-for-profit enterprise that has been developed and launched in association with the Charity Retail Association.

RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch is now selling and accepting this new sustainable shopping gift card in its three shops in Rossington, Thorne and Bawtry - all of which generate vital funds that the charity uses to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome local animals that have been subject to cruelty and neglect.

Mel Medlock, retail operations manager for RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch, said: “We’re thrilled to launch The Charity Shop Gift Card in our shops. It’s a great new way for our supporters to help the work we do in caring for local animals as well as helping people live more sustainably.”

Lee Fellows, co-founder of The Charity Shop Gift Card, said: “We thrilled to welcome the shops of RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch. The network of shops in the scheme is growing rapidly and with the addition of these fantastic shops, residents of South Yorkshire have even more choice to spend their cards."

The Charity Retail Association, the UK's trade body for charity shops, has 450 members with 9,000 shops. Together they are already diverting over 300,000 tonnes of textiles away from landfill and contributing over £300million to help fund the work of their parent charities.

Launching The Charity Shop Gift Card, gives many CRA members their first collective opportunity to tap into the £7billion-a-year gift card market and the growing interest in second hand shopping to support their vital work and drive down landfill even further.

As well as RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch, hundreds of fundraising shops run by national charities Salvation Army, Sense, Marie Curie, Shelter, Crisis, YMCA and The Children’s Society are also accepting The Charity Shop Gift Card as are other regional charities right across the UK.

As a social enterprise, the majority of any profit made by the scheme will go towards funding charity gift cards for good causes to donate to the communities they are supporting.

The gift cards themselves are recyclable and compostable, and are available from participating charities and at supermarkets and other major high street retailers. They can be purchased as e-vouchers from www.thecharityshopgiftcard.co.uk.

The Charity Shop Gift Card is a member of Social Enterprise UK, and the Gift Card and Voucher Association.
