The funeral of a “beloved” Doncaster community stalwart who dedicated her life to helping generations of children has taken place.

Joan O'Connor, who died peacefully on 2 June at The Laurels, Norton, with her family by her side, worked in a variety of education and community roles during a lengthy career.

An obituary described her as “the dearly beloved wife of the late Bernard, dear mum of Janet, mother in law of Keith, much loved Oma to Charlotte and Jake, dear auntie, sister in law and friend to many.

"Joan worked for many years for Doncaster Council, initially as youth leader at Brodsworth and Bullcroft, school secretary at Carcroft and Bentley High Street and, more recently, as a senior social worker leading the sensory team.

"After retirement she volunteered at Owston Skellow Primary School, hearing children read.”

The funeral service took place at Memoria in Barnby Dun on Monday afternoon.
