Fire crews were called to a Doncaster railway station after a train burst into flames.

Firefighters from Thorne, Doncaster and Parkway stations were called to the blaze which broke out on the trailer of a freight train at 9:50pm near to Kirton Lane, Thorne.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

"Crews moved to Stainforth and Hatfield railway station to wait for the train to pull in for them to quickly extinguish the fire. The crews came away at 12:15am.”

It was one of several incidents crews had to deal with in Doncaster last night.

A skip was deliberately set on fire at 9:50pm on Queens Drive, Bentley. Firefighters from Adwick and Rossington stations attended the incident. They left at 10:40pm.

Three fire crews from Adwick, Askern and Doncaster stations attended a deliberate fire involving a car and a front door of a property at 9:50pm on Crossfield Lane, Skellow, Doncaster. No one was inside the premise at the time.

Crews left the scene at 10:45pm.

A vehicle was deliberately set on fire in a field at 10:20pm on Victoria Road, Bentley, Doncaster. Firefighters from Dearne station attended the incident. They left at 11:50pm.
